The viral photo tracker that made one feature famous — now owned by MyFitnessPal.
Cal AI made photo-based logging mainstream and its recognition is still the best in the category — that is the one thing it set out to do and it did it well enough to reach 15 million downloads in under two years. MyFitnessPal acquired it in December 2025, and it now runs against MFP's 20-million-food database. If photo-only logging is the whole of what you want, it is a good app. Ignia ships photo scanning too, free, but treats it as one way in among several rather than the entire product.
